	MALIN KUNDANG

 

Long time ago, in a small village near the beach in west sumatra, lived a poor widow was called by mande rubaya with her son was called by malin kundang.

Their family is very poor. So mande have to work to make a living their family,

Mande really love her son, becaue mande thought that malin never get love from his father, because his father has gone so far away and never come.

One day, after malin growing up malin thought to make a living in the other country, in hopes of later on returning home, he was already a welth man.

And he said to his mother

“ mom.. what if i sail overseas? Mom... i wanna change our live, if i and you stay here until day we’ll never feel weathness mom.. i dont want when you gettin sick you cant buy medicine bcause you dont have money mom.. i dont want that will be happen with us mom..”

Mande cry when she listen what malin explain to her, and she answer

“ malin.. my son.. dont you see??? What my condition right now.. how old i’m. And you said that you wanna leave me..”

Mande more sad and she always cry and said “ malin i’m so tired i wanna take a rest we’ll tell about this tomorrow okay “

And mande leave malin

When tomorrow come

*malin prepare to go to other country

Mande asked to him

“malin are u serious wanna leave me ?”

Malin answer “ mom i apologize to you.. but i must go,  captain said that he wanna go this morning,  mom.. i permit to you.. mom.. let me go mom...”

While mande wiping the tears she said “oke malin i’ll let you go but remember please.. when you not busy please visit me and send letter please”

Malin answer “yes mom.. i’ll remember it”

And then they gone to beach and mande saw that captain would go, and she run to dismiss him.

“captain... captain stop please.. my son wanna follow with you to sail overseas.. let my son go with you please..”

Captain answer “ mande oh mandee you think how evil i’m till i dont let your son follow with me.. malin come here.. lets go boy “

And malin gone with captain by a big ship

Day by day.. year by year mande waited malin but he never come, she ask to everyone in beach how’s life her son

“ captain.. do you know how’s life malin “

And captain answer “ mande.. your son has married with beauty and rich girl.. mande look at your behind.. that is malin’s ship

 "Malin Kundang, my son, why did you go so long without sending any news?" asked mande

But suddenly malin pushed her and said “ "Hey woman! How dare you claim to be my mother. Don’t you see? I’m a rich man, and you? You’re just an old, poor, and dirty woman!"

And malin’s wife said “ hey... poor woman. Please dont be pretend be malin’s mother cuuhhh “

Mande feel so broken and she said  "Oh God, if he is my son, I curse he became a rock". Suddenly, a thunderstorm came. Not long after that, Malin's body slowly becomes stiff and eventually finally shaped into a rock.

And the lesson in this story is, as children, we must respect to our parents. Because every word that our parents say is a prayer for us.
